Public-minded citizens knowledgeable about property appraisal and real estate values can serve their community by becoming a member of the B.C. Property Assessment Review Panel.
The Property Assessment Review Panel investigates and adjudicates citizens’ complaints regarding the assessed value, classification and/or exemptions assigned to property by BC Assessment. Each panel consists of three members with one designated as chair. Panel members serve on a part-time basis and must be available to attend hearings scheduled during the annual assessment review period from Feb. 1 to March 15.
Positions are paid, and initial appointments are typically for a two-year period. Some training is required and provided.
Panel members are needed for several communities, including: Clearwater, Dease Lake, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Golden-Invermere, Hagensborg, Haida Gwaii, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, Penticton, Port Alberni-Tofino, Powell River, Princeton, Revelstoke, Saltspring Island, Sparwood-Fernie, Surrey, Trail-Castlegar and Williams Lake.
Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Ida Chong said, “Property values play an important role in financial and business considerations for people throughout the province. The provincial government is committed to ensuring that all citizens can access equitable, independent and affordable adjudication of concerns about their property assessment. I encourage British Columbians with appropriate experience and interests to learn more about serving on the Property Assessment Review Panel.”
