In light of this year’s Fire Prevention Week running from Oct. 4 until Oct. 10, the Sparwood Fire Department educated residents about fire safety via a drive-thru open house.
Modifying the annual event, residents were able to remain in their vehicles while attending the exhibit this year, which featured auto extraction, repelling, and fire extinguishing demonstrations.
“Last week was fire prevention week, so we like to support that and encourage fire prevention in the home and in the community,” said firefighter Mike Harrington.
“With COVID-19, we couldn’t do what we normally would, so we’ve done a drive-thru to help educate kids, parents and adults on fire safety.”
A number of Sparwood’s firefighters were present at the event, conversing with families as they drove by to offer fire prevention tips and answer any questions about fire safety.
Upon completion of the drive-thru, each attendee received a Fire Safety Educational handout bag, complete with fire safety education pamphlets, colouring pages, activities, and plastic firefighter helmets for children.
