Sparwood has been allocated over $2.5 million in funding to upgrade it’s existing wastewater treatment facilities.
In a release from the federal government on August 22, Sparwood was one of eight communities in British Columbia to be splashed with $20 million in federal and provincial cash.
The funds are intended to help each community become more vibrant and resilient by developing essential social, transportation and green infrastructure in the province.
The split in funding for the Sparwood project is $1,030,000 in federal funding, and $1,545,000 in provincial funding.
The project is to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment facilities to provide secondary treatment, and improve water quality.
Other projects funded include $1.8 million to the Town of Hope for road and safety improvements, $3.3 million for Salt Spring Island for wastewater treatment upgrades, and $383K for the Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation to improve food security.
