Sparwood Golf Club takes an in depth look at playability

Sparwood Golf Club will take a look at ways to improve the course.

The Sparwood Golf Club is in the process of taking an in depth look at its playability and long term viability. With Council recently approving the requested $9500, the Sparwood Gold Club Members will proceed in working with Les Furber, a world renowned golf course architect to review and possibly revamp the golf course design. " What we are looking at is doing a viability study on  the condition of course and  ways we can improve it so it is better playable.  We will be really concentrating on the shape of our greens and the possibility of redoing some of them. There has been no actual work done since the course was established and now there is some settling out and sloughing that needs to be looked at," says Duane Allan Sparwood Golf Club President.

Preliminary meetings with Furber have began and an in depth proposal is expected for spring 2012."Once we have  the full study complete, we will have a really good idea of what needs to be done and what the costs would be to get the work complete. From there, we will look at where we're at, and ways to accomplish the goal," says Allan.

It is expected, that with some much needed improvements the Sparwood Golf Course will  attract more players, keeping the course viable long term. "There are a lot of benefits of having golf course within the community. It draws people in, and is one of the recreational things people can participate in at a relatively low cost. We are really looking forward to the future of the course," concludes Allan.
