The Sparwood Secondary senior girls’ volleyball team recently travelled to Prince George to take part in a sixteen team tournament (starting Dec. 1) for the single A zone championship.

The team had a 6-1 record, finishing 9th overall after being ranked 13th heading into the weekend.

Thanks to the generosity of businesses, organizations, and individuals in the communities of Sparwood, Elkford and Southern Alberta the cost of the tournament was almost completely covered with the team raising over $10,000.

The team will volunteer for different service opportunities for some of the donations, including working some children’s Christmas parties here in the valley. These donations helped to cover hotel, transportation, and meals during the competition.

Coaches Wagner and Dennehy as well as all of the athletes would like to extend a massive thank you to all of the businesses, organizations, and individuals who helped the team reach their potential through various contributions: Sparwood Secondary School PAC, Sparwood Secondary School, School District 5, Teck, Elk Valley Thrift Store, KalTire, Maxam, Mountain Mechanical, Foothills Group, Napa Autoparts Sparwood, Sparwood Chiropractic, Bear’s Paw Contracting, The Knights of Columbus, Transcendent, The Sparwood Futures Society, Cummins, Save On Foods, and IUOE Local 115 District 6 (Line Creek Council).
