Three Elk Valley organisations that save lives in winter have been awarded grants to keep up with their public safety work.

The Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association, Fernie Volunteer Ski Patrol Society and Sparwood Search and Rescue Society all received Public Safety Grants from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

The Canadian Avalanche Rescue Dog Association was given a grant for $68,000, Fernie Volunteer Ski Patrol Society got $6,1800 and Sparwood Search and Rescue Society got $51,000.

“It is extremely important to fund local associations dedicated to community safety, as that is the number one priority for us as we enter this winter season,” said Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett.
