Armed with a desire to help others, Alison Fleming set off this year facilitating Halloween For Hunger in Sparwood. "I have been involved in the Free The Children Organization for awhile, Halloween For Hunger is one of their initiatives," says Fleming. "When I seen this work in other area, I thought I would try it in Sparwood," she said. The evening was more than successful. With over a dozen friends involved, over 1300 non perishable food items were collected by the teens. A friend of Flemings, Alyssa Rivard says that the idea was really cool. "People were really generous and it was a lot of fun," notes Rivard. The young ladies with a pickup truck box filled with food headed to the Sparwood Food Bank were their donation was greatly appreciated.
Jacob Zahn and Cameron Bilodeau, students at Frank J Mitchell Elementary School also heard about Halloween For Hunger and took it upon themselves to collect food items on Halloween night.
