KUBOS:
Surrounded by loved ones, Daniel Thomas Kubos passed away peacefully at the Elk Valley Hospital on June 3, 2010. He was 70 years old. Danny was predeceased by his parents Louis and Mary Kubos, brothers Steve, Louis, and George, his sister Cecile, and his son Martin Wilchuk.
Danny was born in Fernie on January 14, 1940. In September 1969 he married Bessie Wilchuk, a young widow with four children who Danny lovingly embraced as his own. Within a few years Martin, Marilyn, Wayne and Elaine welcomed siblings Diane and Danny Jr.; the Kubos family was complete.
Danny was a hard working man who lived life with an adventurous, fun-loving spirit. He worked as a surveyor and then at the Elko sawmill for 35 years until his retirement in 2005. Never a man to sit idle, Danny then decided to work part-time at the Fernie Transfer Station to fill his days.
An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, blueberry picking and gardening, and enjoyed sharing these passions with family and friends. He also had a deep love for the game of hockey; his team being the Montreal Canadiens. Locally, Danny and Bessie were dedicated fans of the Fernie Ghostriders, attending every game. His all time favorite hockey player was his granddaughter Rhylynn (“The Rocket”), and he was looking forward to watching his grandson Landon start playing this fall.
Danny loved to have a good time, often being the instigator of many a water fight at Rock Creek and Bull River. Generations have been touched by Danny, who taught them how to give love and how to receive love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with smiles and laughter.
Danny is survived by his wife Bessie; 5 children: Marilyn (George), Wayne (Anna-Marie), Elaine (Don), Diane (Gary), and Danny (Renee); 9 grandchildren: Martin (Jenna), Marty John, Jolie (Chad), Lainee (Curtis), Terri (Graham), Shawn, Elleda (Brendan), Rhylynn and Landon, and 4 great grandchildren: Heide, Myla, Brayden and Branden. He also leaves to mourn his passing brothers Tom (June) and Joe, his sister Annie and numerous nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and neighbors.
A Memorial Service was held at Cherished Memories “Serenity Chapel” on Tuesday, June 8th. Inurnment followed at St. Margaret’s Cemetery.
