CHERNEY:

Elizabeth (Betty) Cherney passed away peacefully at the Elk Valley Hospital on February 21, 2011 at the age of 80 years. For the last three years she was a resident of the Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie.

Betty was born an only child to parents Michael and Margaret George on September 13, 1930, and grew up with her many cousins. She attended the Catholic School for grades one thru seven and then Fernie Secondary School where she graduated from grade thirteen. She married Harry Cherney in 1953 and started her family. She moved to Saskatchewan for a time with her husband and eldest child, Harry Junior where her second child, Debbie was born. The family then returned to Fernie where Philip and Bob were born. In 1966 the family moved to Galloway where she raised her children. In 1969 Charlene was born and in 1973, Jeanine completed the family.

Betty was a member of the Sand Creek Lady Lions, the Catholic Women’s League, and the Galloway and Jaffray Birthday Clubs. Betty was an avid reader and had a wide range of interests. She was also one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans.

Betty is survived by her loving family; children Harry (Verna Letcher), Debbie Blais (Walter), Philip (Charyl Wilson), Bob (Dot Galvin), Charlene Holmgren (Corey Fowler), and Jeanine Lebsack (Jeff), her grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer), Nicholas (Dani), Ryan (Sing), Erin, Brandy, Amy (Danny), Jen (Shane), Jackie (Tasy), Brett (Sydney), Scott and Morgan, and her great grandchildren: Seth, Coraline, Austin, Kelsey, Kaori, Tasia, Conner, Sophia and Kate.

Betty was dearly loved and will be missed by all her family and friends. A Prayer Service was held on Thursday, February 24th. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, February 25th with a reception at the Senior’s Drop-In Centre. Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services.
