Ellen Morley Smith:

Born September 17, 1922

Saunders Creek, Alberta

Passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in her sleep at Rocky Mountain Village, Saturday, February 20th, 2010 in Fernie, B.C.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Dean Cooper Smith, and survived by her three daughters, Joy (Alfie, predeceased) Quattrin of Selkirk, Man., Gerry (Keith) Gerstner of Neudorf, Sask., and Cathy (Frank) Gentile of Fernie, B.C., who cared for her personally in her last years.

Ellen was the matriarch of our family, who dedicated and lived her life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She involved herself diligently with genealogy, the Family History Centre, and Temple duties. She was a self-taught herbalist who wrote lovely poetry and was known for her beautiful pen and ink artwork. She was a talented lady with an abundance of knowledge on numerous subjects. She was highly involved in politics on all levels; civic, provincial and federal. She was active, ambitious and had a special place in her heart for her many friends, especially in the Jaffray and Cardston area.

She will be sadly missed and always remembered by her friends and family which include her grandchildren, Tony (Kate) Quattrin, Angela (Norm) Nacorato, Jay (Heather) Quattrin, Alan Quattrin, and Richard Gerstner, Stephen Gerstner, Geana (Kevin) Johnston, and Leslie (Ray) Riva, predeceased Micheal (Cheryl) Verhaeghe, Melody Verhaeghe, Merrilee Verhaeghe, Candace Verhaeghe and also 16 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Funeral service was officiated by Bishop Gibbings, and interred beside her eternal husband, Dean Smith at the Cardston cemetery.
