April 17, 1940 - October 25, 2023

In loving memory ~

It is with a deep sadness that his family announces the passing of our beloved Garry Adams.

Alvin Garry Adams suffered a sudden brain stroke on October 18, 2023. On the 25th of October, with the fire crackling, surrounded by his family and beloved dog Finn, Garry passed away peacefully in his home in Fernie, B.C. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gail, son Fraser, daughter-in-law Nicole, grandson Aiden, his daughter Lindsay MacKay, his sister Kathy Royer and her family, plus all members of the Kitchen family.

Garry was born April 17, 1940, in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. The family moved to Ocean Falls when he was 2 years old. He spent his childhood loving the outdoors by exploring the mountains and ocean that surrounded him in this isolated community. As a member of the Ocean Falls swim team, he travelled the province & country and even represented Canada at the Pan Am games. He served in the Canadian Navy as a navigator's yeoman, diver, and fitness instructor. Once he left the Navy, he studied Recreation Administration and pursued a career as a Recreation Consultant for the Ontario Provincial government. Upon retirement, he & Gail moved west to Fernie. Dismissing the term retired he often referred to himself as a "professional recreationist".

Garry was never one to let age define him. He continuously thrived to maintain his level of fitness so he could enjoy, skiing, hiking, swimming, volunteering for Search & Rescue, and adventure travelling, but most of all enjoying his passion for fly fishing with his family and friends. With a twinkle in his eye, Garry could be the life of a party displaying his rather unique dance moves. His lust for life and the love of his family will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date in the Spring.

The family would like to sincerely thank the Home Care team led by Karen Sims who moved Heaven & Earth to get Garry home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Fernie Search & Rescue.
