Maria Luisa Rino

May 16, 2010

Rino

It is with deep sorrow the family of Maria Luisa Rino announce her passing on May 16, 2010 in Fernie, B.C. with her loving family at her side.

Luisa, “as known by most”, was born May 2, 1916 in Grimaldi, Italy. This is where she met and married her soul mate Gennaro Rino and together they were blessed with three children. As times grew harder and in search of a better life for his family, Gennaro and their 2 sons moved to Canada, while Luisa and their daughter, remained in Italy to care for Mr. Rino’s ailing father. In June 1966, Luisa moved to Canada where her family was once again reunited and Fernie became their home.

Luisa enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, her native Italian dishes pleasing many. She loved to sew, embroider, crochet, and knit, but flowers were her passion.

She had a special way about her, always walked her path with patience, love and kindness.

Luisa is survived by her children, Peppi (Rosetta), Tony and Carmela. Her life was inspired and uplifted by her granddaughters Luisa (Evaan), Gisella and Gina (Rob). She was predeceased by her husband Gennaro on November 19, 2002.

Prayer service was held on May 21st with funeral Mass on May 22, 2010 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Fernie, B.C. Interment will take place in Grimaldi, Italy at a later date.

Nonna,

I sit here with the daunting task of having to say a final good bye to my nonna: someone who has deeply influenced my life and who I am today.

What I am left with when I peel away the layers of her impact is the incredible force and strength she represented.

As her namesake, it is difficult to determine where nurturing ends and the DNA begins, but in the end, the results are the same.

This was someone who embodied to me absolute loyalty, fervent determination, and unwavering resolution.

All laudable traits, but ones that take internal strength to uphold, traits that are often misunderstood, and ones that are easier to speak of than to personify.

I will take all that she has given me throughout her long and experienced life, and will forever cherish the gift of such a beautiful guide in my life.

Thank you.

~ Love your Granddaughter Luisa
