July 11, 1932 - February 15, 2021
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved uncle, Peter George, who passed away on Monday, February 15th at the age of 88 years.
Peter was born in Lethbridge, AB on July 11, 1932 to parents John and Mary (nee Skvarla) George. On December 15, 1944, Peter moved with his parents and siblings from Lethbridge to Fernie; the place Peter would call home for the rest of his life.
Peter dedicated 7 years of his life studying to become a Catholic Priest before making the decision to change the direction of his future. He worked various jobs including underground at the Coal Creek Mine, Trice Woods, the CNI Mill, and bartending at the King Edward Hotel and the Fernie Legion before beginning his 40-year stint with IGS where he remained until his retirement.
In 1970, Peter met the love of his life, Inez Sallans, while she was a cook at the King Edward Hotel. They spent the next 39 years together, until her death on February 15, 2009; dying exactly 12 years apart.
Peter enjoyed reading a good book, going for long walks, watching movies, baking, and tending to his beautiful flower beds. He was also a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting and cheering on his favourite teams; the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Peter could always be found chatting with friends on dart nights and at the Saturday afternoon meat draws at the Legion.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, his sister Mary Chollock, brothers John, Eddy, Roy, and his beloved Inez. He will be dearly missed by several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Holy Family Catholic Church or the Royal Canadian Legion (Fernie Branch) appreciated.
