ROBERTSON:

With loved ones at her bedside, Viola “Lou” Robertson passed away at the Elk Valley Hospital on January 3, 2010 following a hard fought battle with cancer. The second of three children, Viola Norma was born in Calgary, Alberta on March 24, 1946 to parents Norman and Evelyn (nee Bixby) Frayn. The apple of her father’s eye, he lovingly nicknamed his little girl “Lou”, the name that stuck with her throughout her life.

Lou is survived by her children: Doug (Pat) Smith, Wanda Nord (Boyd), Marina Robertson (Dave), and Sam Gran (Ben), step-children Robby and Patty Robertson, grandchildren Doug and Shawna Smith, A.J. and Steven Storey, Kayla Nord, Kelsey Radke, Maddy Gran, Shelby Lou, Kyler Robertson and Belinda, and her great grandchild Kera Lynn Smith (Connolly) as well as her brother Donnie (Carol) and sister Pat. Lou was predeceased by her parents (Poppa and Grandma), her husband Jim Robertson, her long time partner Chiche, son-in-law Johnny Nord, and in November 2009, her grandson Dusty Bear.

Feisty and independent, Lou enjoyed life; working hard and playing hard. She was a great cook and also enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, and driving her prized red truck through the back woods. A regular viewer of the Home Shopping Channel, Lou spent many evenings glued to the TV or on the phone placing orders. Those who loved Lou knew that under her gruff exterior was a woman who loved her family and friends deeply, and she will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life was held at Cherished Memories “Serenity Chapel” on Friday, January 8, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2218, Fernie, BC, V0B 1M0. Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services Ltd.
