In loving memory ~
The family of William (Bill) Ponic is sad to announce that he passed away on September 14, 2023, at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie, B.C. Bill was born in Ford City, ON, (Windsor/Essex County region) in 1928, to Emil and Jenny Ponic. He was predeceased by Doris, his wife of 67 years, his parents, sister Emily, brothers Steve and George and nephews Jim and George Ponic.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a good friend and mentor.
He and his wife Doris moved with their family from Ontario to Cranbrook, B.C., in 1967 where he worked for the City of Cranbrook waterworks department until retirement.
Dad was an avid outdoorsman who spent many years hunting, fishing and guiding in his leisure time. In later years they moved to Genelle, B.C., where he became a Trustee with the Genelle Improvement District, sharing his expertise in that field. They returned to Belle River, ON, until he lost the love of his life, Doris.
Bill returned to B.C. where he lived independently in Jaffray and ultimately in full care at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie.
Bill is survived by his children, Dennis of Calgary, daughters Mary Sharp of Jaffray and Linda Worley of Genelle, his grandchildren, Paul Sharp of Calgary, Michael Sharp of Fernie, Wade Ponic of Calgary, Sara Worley of Windermere and Rachel Worley of Castlegar, several great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stuckey of Fernie, Cheryl Durst and the staff of Rocky Mountain Village for the amazing and respectful care he received to the end.
At his request, there will be no service, but we ask that those who knew him take a walk in the woods or stand by the edge of a lake and bid him a safe journey.
