Two boxers from Fernie Old School boxing will be representing their mountain town at an upcoming fight in Lethbridge.
On June 16th Dylan Mitchell and Christian Fedorwick will be competing at Lethbridge Boxing Clubs Kai Yip, Curtis Hatch Memorial Club Card.
This will serve as Mitchell’s fourth fight and he is looking to get back on the winning track. Fedorwick has been a member of the club off and on since he was 13, and his last fight was three years ago. He recently returned to the club, and has been working hard towards getting back in shape and recommitting to his boxing.
“We are looking forward to seeing both boxers back in action,” said Fernie Old School Boxing president, Mike Johnson.
On May 12, Mitchell fought in Nelson at Nelson Boxing Club’s Fight Night V. His opponent was Ijaaz Faheem from Savard Boxing. Mitchell came in 12 pounds under his opponent which proved to be a big hurdle to overcome. According to Johnson, Mitchell held his own during the first round but during the second, the extra weight and strength of his opponent started to get the better of him resulting in the referee stopping the fight.
On April 21, Colton Jones of Fernie Old School Boxing fought his debut fight at the Grizzly Cage Boxing Club’s Event, Ring of Fire, in Calgary. His opponent was Michael Adenyi from Savard Boxing.
Johnson says he fought well on his debut, winning the first round, however half way through the second round he took a strong hit to the shoulder which left him unable to defend himself. This resulted in the referee stopping the fight. Jones is now recovering back in training and hopes to be fighting later this month.
On June 30, Fernie Old School Boxing will also be competing in Taber, and in Kelowna on July 7. The club hopes to have additional boxers Seth Wiggins, Keith Kurschenska and Glen Finley available for these fights.
After the Kelowna competition the boxing club will be closing the club for the summer and reopening in September.
They hope to bring a charity show to Fernie in November.
