A combination of teamwork and passion helped Elkford’s team, Skate Revolution, live up to its name this past weekend at the 2014 Mountain Region Synchronized Skating Championships.

In their first-ever competition, the Elkford Figure Skating Club’s Skate Revolution provided a silver-medal performance that wowed spectators at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, as well as more than a thousand online viewers via livestream.

The 13-member team jumped into the big league by entering a competition that brings together teams from B.C., Alberta, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon, with higher level teams advancing to nationals. With an upbeat program skated to several Michael Jackson hits, Skate Revolution quickly became a crowd favourite and featured the only male skater in the entire competition which brought together over 300 skaters.

“On Saturday, they skated with their hearts,” summarized a parent of one of the Elkford competitors, “and on Sunday they skated with their hearts and souls.”

Although the combined marks of their two performances left them just short of a gold medal, Skate Revolution was thrilled to earn second place and make such a memorable debut on the synchronized skating scene. They plan to continue in this unique skating discipline next season, with their sights set on the podium’s top spot.
