Sonny Muzzin, of Fernie, scored a hole-in-one on the 7th hole at the Fernie Golf Club on Saturday, July 10, during the Fernie Open. Sonny won $10,000 for the shot. The two-day Fernie Open itself, along with the July 7 Men’s League event on July 7, was the club’s first major tournament to be held since the pandemic began — a sure sign things are returning to normal, perhaps? The Fernie Golf Club hosted two different tournaments recently.

July 7 was the Club’s Men’s League event.

The second event was the Fernie Open, played on Saturday July 10 and Sunday July 11 — the largest non-club championship tournament to be held since the advent of the pandemic.

The total field, still limited because of Covid-19, was 75 competitors, 20 of whom came from outside the valley, from as far away as Kimberley, Cranbrook, Calgary and Creston.

The two-day tournament was organized according to tee times, as opposed to a more usual shotgun start.
