Do you want to see the widely praised film, Call Me By Your Name? We do too! The Fernie Pride Society is bringing the 2018 Academy Award winner to Fernie for a single screening on Wednesday, March 28, at 9:00 p.m. at the Vogue Cinema.

Call Me By Your Name is a coming-of-age drama film set in Northern Italy in 1983. The film chronicles the romantic relationship between Elio, a 17-year-old living in Italy, and his father’s 24-year-old American assistant Oliver. Film critics describe Call Me By Your Name as a powerfully affecting portrait of first love that transcends the same-sex dynamic of its central couple. It received a ten-minute standing ovation at the New York Film Festival: the longest in the festival’s history.

Call Me By Your Name was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Picture in 2018. It won Best Adapted Screenplay for film legend James Ivory, of Merchant & Ivory fame. The film is rated 14a and regular Vogue admission rates apply.

Before the screening at 7:30 p.m., you are invited to the Fernie Pride Society’s Annual General Meeting at 281 First Avenue, Fernie. Celebrating the Society’s first year of operations, President Sara Funk will summarize 2017’s highlights, including the very successful Elk Valley Pride Festival, and plans for 2018.

The Fernie Pride Society is looking for additional volunteer board members to govern and support the work of this young non-profit organization. There are currently six dynamic board members, and we have the capacity for three more. Diversity is essential to us. Everyone is welcome to apply, but we are specifically interested in those who identify in the LGBTQ2 spectrum. Additionally, if you identify as male, transgender, or as a resident of Elkford or the RDEK Area A, we would love to have your voice at the table.

Help make the Elk Valley a place known for diversity and inclusion.
