The Fernie Ghostriders split their weekend games, travelling to Golden Friday to defeat the Rockets 6-1 and returning home Saturday, where they lost to North Okanagan Knights 3-2.
Head Coach Ty Vallin says that it really is too early to say much about team’s play.
“We’re working through a lot of things and taking it day by day,” he said.
The Ghostriders are currently in 4th place in the Eddie Mountain division but have played less games, due to the way the schedule worked out, which Vallin says was not ideal.
Columbia Valley, in first place has played seven, and the Kimberley Dynamiters and Creston have played six. Fernie has only had five games thus far.
However, Vallin says there are some players who are making themselves noticed. He pointed to captain Taylor Haggerty, and defenceman Andrew Kennedy as starting the season very well.
“A couple of young guys have really stepped up too,” he said. “Overall, we’re still evaluating.”
Fernie traded two players for Player Development Fees this past week. Joseph Kurkowski was sent to Summerland and Carter Hartt went to North Okanagan.
Next up for the Riders is Grand Forks this Friday in Grand Forks, then on to Spokane on Saturday.
