The Ghostriders are in the second place position in their KIJHL division following three games this past week.
The team defeated the Kimberley Dynamiters on Oct. 26 2-1 in a shootout, after defeating the same team 4-3 on Oct. 23. Fast-forward to the weekend, and the Ghostriders faced the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Oct. 29, and the Golden Rockets on Oct. 30. They defeated Creston on home ice 2-1, but lost to Golden, also on home ice, 4-5 in a shootout.
Friday was the battle for second place in their division. Coming out on top put them in a good situation going into Saturday’s game, said head coach Ty Valin.
Although they were up in the third against Golden, their opponents managed to come back and tie it up, ultimately beating them in a shootout.
“That’s never a good feeling,” Valin said.
The team’s top scorer, Kort Kisinger, a 19-year-old winger originally from Calgary, said his team just needs to “bear down” and play the full 60 minutes.
“We can’t just take that last period off. We gotta play the full game,” he said.
The loss against Golden was a “tough one,” Valin said.
“But, overall, this last week we got five out of six points… and 11 out of a possible 12 points in our last little stretch here. So, it’s been a good run.”

Kisinger has four goals and four assists so far this season. He said the season got off to a slower start, but the team has improved over the last few games, and has “gone on a little bit of a streak.”
“Things are going in the right direction now.”
Valin said that the team just needs to focus on themselves and keep developing their group. Hockey is “a marathon, not a sprint.”
“We want to be peaking at the right time of the year, which is playoff time,” he said.
Both Valin and Kisinger praised the Fernie fan-base.
“Everyone loves it,” the young forward said. “It’s the best part about Fernie. It will never get old. I can’t wait to have full capacity for that.”
The Ghostriders have six wins, three losses, and one shootout loss this season.
They will be gearing up for back-to-back away games again this upcoming weekend. The first will see them pitted against the Castlegar Rebels on Nov. 5, and the second against the Grand Forks Border Bruins on Nov. 6.
“I’m excited for the season. I think we have a really good team,” Kisinger said.
