The Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR) has extended this year’s winter season by a week in celebration of their 60th anniversary.

The winter season closing day has been moved to Sunday, April 17, according to a news release. The original closing date was set for April 10.

“As March is usually our snowiest month, we invite you to keep your powder skis ready, your sunblock handy, spring carving skis set to go and most importantly, enjoy our spring weekend events,” said Resorts of the Canadian Rockies vice president of marketing and resort experience, Matt Mosteller.

There will also be ‘spring celebration’ events leading into the warmer months.

Local band Shred Kelly will be putting on a concert at FAR on March 26, and a ‘Fernival’ on April 9 and 10 will feature live music from several bands and, tentatively, the Powder, Pedal, Paddle event will be held that Sunday, April 10. More information about the events can be found on the FAR website.

“Celebrate our ski and ride community, and 60 years of snow loving fun!” Mosteller said.

“We are grateful and thankful to all who have shared their passion for skiing with us for 60 years! A special shout out to all of our team, friends and family who live in Fernie and don’t forget to thank the Griz as well.”
